Ah, I see how it works. My bad. Yes, only relevant notes with the “personal” and sub tags that fall under that are shown in the sidebar. But I guess my confusion is that if I have to root tags that are workspaces (personal and work), I would want my “work” root tag not shown so it feels like the focus is truly on “personal”.
And maybe it’s just me, but in the mini modal when selecting the workspace dropdown, under the Workspace heading, it shows Notes. Which I assumed to mean notes within the current workspace. But that’s not the case. It’s confusing. Notes in that dropdown simply means returning to all notes view (no workspace), but to me that Heading and the immediate text below makes more sense if it shows the current workspace I’m in, or don’t have a heading at all.

You can! A workspace is just a tag, pin the tag and you’ll get it in the pinned workspace section 
I think he/she means being able to quickly go from one workspace to another. Pinning a tag isn’t the same as diving into a workspace.
By pinning a tag in the sidebar it will be listed in the context menu within the section “Pinned”.
@fuzenco The pinned tags appear in the context menu for quicker access. Or do you mean something else?
Yes, that was confusing. Another name would be better as all the entries in the menu are possible workspaces.

Well, for instance. Look at the attached screenshots. I am in my “work” workspace, but down below in the sidebar, you can see my root “personal” tag is shown. I would think that that tag would not be shown in the sidebar. And note that none of my notes while in “work” use my “personal” tag or any of its sub tags.
Then it seems to be a bug. I so far have no problems in that regard

As you’re still in beta, the most immediate feedback that I have is that those tags which are designated as workspaces on Mac do not sync over to the iOS/iPadOS unless I quit out of the mobile apps then re-load them. Not sure why this happens, but I figured I’d let you know

Regardless of the note I am currently in, I am one click away from jumping into a pinned tag. They’re always available from the sidebar. I agree with you here.
But if I am in my #personal workspace, I am not one click away from my #work workspace (since it’s by definition outside of that tag). So a workspace provides me with the expected focused view, but it does not allow me to quickly toggle to a focused view of another workspace. For me, who switches often between person/work throughout the day, that is key.
If, however, saved/pinned workspaces were given some real estate next to the currently active one, it would allow me to toggle between them easily. Just like how Bear allows me to go between Todo / Today / Locked easily from a given workspace.
Perhaps the name of this feature brings an expectation beyond the focused view for me. The focused view is a critical part of it, but so is frictionless access to that view.
Anyway, I hope that helps explain a bit better the gap I perceive
You indeed need two clicks: 1. click on the double arrow icon and 2. click on a listed tag from the context menu. But how else could you implement it within the UI? The only thing I can think of would be hotkeys that let you switch back and forth quickly.
Hotkey jumps between workspaces would be a great appraoch

I love it, this is an awesome feature!
There is one thing missing to make my flow ideal however: automatically create new wiki link notes with the proper workspace tag.
For instance, if I am in the #work workspace and I a create a wiki link to a non-existing note, clicking on that link will show this pop-up.
I would much prefer that it creates the new note with the #work tag, just as it would if I hit CMD-N. Currently, if I want to create and link to a new note, I have to first create it with CMD-N, then come back to the original note and link it, which is not ideal.
Edit. Never mind. This already works perfectly, I was just testing with a note that already existed elsewhere.
Actually that’s what Bear does: it creates a new note from the wiki link and tags it properly. The shown dialogue only appears if the linked note already exist outside of the workspace. If you click this wiki link to this note you are asked if you want to leave.
Oh you are right, it works perfectly! My bad, I tested with a “Hello world” note that already existed outside the workspace, in my trash.

@matteo I think I found a bug:
The focused-tag-section (at the very top of the sidebar where “Note” usually appears) does not display all notes if “Hide Subtags” is enabled in the notes list. Actually that option should be greyed out for a section.

I cannot get the workspace feature to work when right-clicking a tag in bear web. I get pin, edit, and delete tag. I an working from a Chromebook.
It’s not available on the web version.

I have a couple of questions about entering a tag’s “workspace”:

After entering a tag workspace, can all sub-levels of that tag in the sidebar be expanded automatically? Currently, this doesn’t seem to happen. If the sub-levels were previously collapsed, I still need to manually expand them.

Can other tags in the sidebar be hidden automatically? Currently, all tags are still displayed, although notes under tags outside the current workspace are not shown. I feel this makes the sidebar a bit cluttered. It would be better if the sidebar could focus only on the current workspace tag and its related content.
