# FR: Option to drag and drop an external file as a file link

When dragging and dropping a file from Finder into an editor, could we have the option of inserting a file:// link to the original file, in addition to the current behavior (duplicating the file into the note folder)? By holding option when dropping the file, for example.

Personally this is a big part of my workflow whenever I need to write something while referring to multiple PDFs in different places in Finder (so when I return to the note I can quickly access all of them).

yes, the drag’n drop will be soon the focus of many changes and we’ll be providing customizable behaviours 🙂
