This template is for bug report only:

- **Lettera Version** : 3980
- **macOS Version** : 26.5.1
- **What were you doing** : Expanding a folder in the file browser sidebar
- **What happened:** I can click on a folder in the sidebar to select it, and then expand that folder using the right arrow key (or by clicking its fold toggle in the file browser). However, at that point the selection then jumps from that folder to the currently open file, wherever it is in the file browser. Besides being somewhat jarring to have the selection jump upon expanding a folder (an action that typically leaves that folder selected), making the navigation experience discontinuous, what’s more problematic is that this breaks the ability to smoothly navigate the file browser via keyboard-- frequently, I want to to open a folder with a right arrow press, visually check its contents in the file browser, and then close it again with a left arrow press, which is now not possible unless the open file happens to be in that folder.
- **What did you expect to happen:** At a narrow level, however one decides to comprimise between selecting the currently open file and navigating freely in the file browser, I don’t think it makes sense to force current-file-selection upon expanding an arbitrary folder, those seem totally unconnected. More generally, I’m not sure about the best solution – perhaps the open file should be “highlighted” but not selected in the file browser; or it should be reselected upon re-focusing the file, though even that could lead to unwanted file browser jumps.

Edited: after playing with this some more I’m not not even sure I understand the full logic of what’s going on, but I managed to get to some pretty weird and clearly buggy states, as illustrated in this attached image where a previously open file (“unnamed0”) is floating in nowhere land in the file browser and is overlapping the contents of an opened folder.
