I’m running Mac OS 15.3.1 and Bear 2.3.10 on an M1 Mac Studio. The Mac had a major hardware issue requiring new motherboard amongst other items from Apple. With machine repaired and tested I used Time Machine to restore everything, which it did without flagging any issues.
On opening Bear the left hand column of Tags is not populated with my tags. If I select ‘Untagged’ it shows notes that have existing tags and nested tags. If I edit a tag that tag then appears in the left hand column, but I don’t want to have to go into every note to edit the tag to make it work.
How can I force Bear to ‘read’ all the existing tags to automatically include them in the left hand tag column as it did before?
Bear is also running on two other Macs and displays the tag column correctly.
My problem seems the same as this topic which petered out in April 2023 without publishing any solution/conclusion.
Your database file is most likely corrupted. Do you have some confidence with the Terminal app I can explain the procedure to fix it here. Otherwise please write to our customer support.
I’m happy to cut and paste into Terminal, but before going there, as I have Bear running properly on two other machines, would it work if I just uninstalled from the problem Mac Studio and then reinstalled, allowing sync to then do its thing?
Yes, it might take some time to sync back all your data but is easier.
Quit Bear and delete this folder ~/Library/Group Containers/9K33E33T4.net.shinyfrog.bear
(In Finder, you can hit CMD+SHIFT+G, paste the path, and hit Enter)
Reopen Bear and let it sync.
fabulous support. Deleted the app, deleted the file ~/Library/Group Containers/9K33E33T4.net.shinyfrog.bear and then reinstalled from the App Store and bingo, all my tags are now working as they should.
