Would love the option to show backlinks to the current note at the bottom of the current note! Is this a possibility? Anyone else want this option?
I’d love this option too
There have already been several discussions about this here in the forum. It’s fair to say that the majority, including myself, don’t really attach much importance to this feature.
Why you want to see the backlinks within and at the end of the note is understandable for everyone. Depending on the user and the way they create notes and for what purpose, the backlinks can be the main content of a note. This is how they were intended when they were introduced by roam research years ago. But even in Obsidian, it was standard to display the backlinks separately outside the note.
This has obvious advantages: For longer notes, you don’t have to scroll down to the end of the note, so they remain visible regardless of where you are in the note, and finally, you can hide the backlinks altogether if they are not the focus of interest. Of course, Obsidian wouldn’t be Obsidian if it hadn’t introduced the option of also displaying the backlinks within the note.
Bear, however, has a completely different philosophy to Obsidian and has a minimalist approach to the design of the user interface, which aims to ensure simple and intuitive use. I also learned that while you can ask the devs for anything, you should think carefully before asking for an option. If you look at Bear’s editor, you will notice that it is not divided into fixed areas to which a specific function is assigned. You will be able to write a tag anywhere and a footnote anywhere. If you’re feeling funny, you can even write a line of text next to an image. What you see in the editor is usually what you will see in an exported Markdown file. And I don’t think that will change in the near future.
The real problem is that the backlinks are only visible in a pop-up menu. The devs had once thought about implementing a 4th column within the UI, but have frozen this project for the time being
