Use Lettera to browse and restore individual files from Bear Backups

Bear Backup Extraction (for single notes restore):

Run this shortcut on any Bear backup file, and use Lettera to browse individual .md and .textbundle files.

Apple Shortcut with Python Scripts:

  • v.1.0 - 2025-03-04 at 12:41
  • v.1.1 - 2026-10-05 at 16:14
  1. Extacting Bear Backup archives to date-stamped folder in /Downloads/
    as .md files and .textbundles for individual note search and restore.
  2. Running Python3 script: setting correct created and modified dates
    on all .textbundles and text.md files, getting these dates from info.json.
  3. Trashed, archived, and encrypted notes are moved into respective subfolders
  4. Textbundles are then converted to .md, if no assets (2026-10-05)
