What is this "--- property: ---" code block/header feature?

I’ve just discovered this in the iOS mobile menu code-block key and I have no idea what it does. Can anyone explain? It also works in Mac if I type the following into the top of a note:

---
property: 
---

It looks like the image below when in the note

What is this?? I can’t find any documentation for it.

Hello Matt,

it’s the YAML front matter and it’s used to store metadata concerning a markdown document but Bear treats the data as regular text with the exception of the HTML exporter.
