Allow opening a note in a new window more than once

At the moment (Bear 2.3.10 — 13092), one may open a note in a new window by right-clicking it in the side bar and clicking “Open in a new window”, which is great.

This feature request is about being able to do that more than once. Right now, if one tries to click twice on “Open in a new window”, it just brings back the already-opened window in focus.

My use case for opening the same note more than once is that I may want to see something at the top of the note (let’s say a figure) and write about it in a section below. To do this, it’s great to have the same note opened side-by-side. This is possible if I open the note in a new window and in Bear’s main window at the same time but it means I can’t use Bear’s main window for other notes. Therefore, I would find it nice to be able to open a note as many times as one clicks on “Open in a new window”.

Actually you can use the same note in the main window as second instance and close the left sidebar and the notes list. The result would be the same: you would have two windows with the same note

Yes exactly, but as I mentioned, it means you can’t use your main window for something else. Basically, I would like:

  • the main window available to switch at any time between notes and switch context across the day
  • two windows side by side in a dedicated screen showing the same note
