First off, I want to say that I absolutely love Bear Notes. Its clean design, smooth performance, and powerful markdown support make it an integral part of my PKM.
That said, I wanted to share a few pain points I’ve encountered. These are areas where I feel Bear could improve to make an already great app even better.
1. Lack of Note History
This is the one issue that makes me occasionally evaluate other options. Recently, I accidentally deleted some content from a note, and there was no way to recover it. I did have a backup, but it wasn’t recent enough to save the changes I lost. A version history feature would be invaluable for peace of mind and productivity.
2. Limited Sharing Options Outside the Mac Ecosystem
It’s frustrating not being able to send notes via email or integrate with platforms outside of Apple’s ecosystem. Every time I am on my windows PC and I want to save something to bear I have to paste it on Google Keep and copy on Bear from my Mac or similar tricks.
3. No Tag-Specific Sorting Options
The ability to set different sorting preferences for each tag would be a game-changer. For example, some tags might work best sorted by creation date, while others might need alphabetical sorting.
4. Inability to Set Custom Creation Dates
I often want to sort notes chronologically, but not having the option to adjust a note’s creation date makes this tricky. Adding a feature to set or modify a note’s date would greatly enhance organizational flexibility.
5. Moving Tags in the Sidebar to Adjust Nesting
Currently, reorganizing tags to adjust their nesting structure is cumbersome. Drag-and-drop functionality (or a similar solution) would make managing the sidebar much more intuitive.
Again, I want to emphasize that Bear Notes is already amazing, and I’m sharing these points because I believe they could make it even better!
