Current method of unlocking a note goes by clicking the note → tapping the fingerprint /faceID (I suppose) → unlocking using the sensors

Hi Eleanor, that is a great question! macOS alternatively provides this popup to access the touchID
The problem with this is that it covers up the main Bear user interface. If we display this window every time a locked note is selected, instead of our sensor screen, navigating the notes in the list becomes a significant user experience issue and it might take longer to enter the note than it currently does.
Also not everyone wants to Auto Unlock notes - for example, if I were being shoulder surfed, and accidentally clicked the wrong note, I wouldn’t want it to unlock so quickly that my shoulder surfer could see
