Looking for a shortcut to replace text selection with a wiki link to new note

Actually I do not need only help, but a kind person who has the capabilities which I do not have at all. I feel to overwhelmed to even start creating that shortcut.

I need a shortcut that creates a new note out of a text selection and replaces the selection with a link to that new note. Here more detailed explanation:

  • A piece of the text is selected
  • The shortcut is triggered
  • A pop up opens where I can type in the name of the note
  • A new note is created
  • The typed in name of the note (see two steps ago) becomes the title of the note and is a heading of level 1
  • The selection is replaced with a wiki link to the new note
  • The selection is transferred to the new note after the heading 1
  • The new note is not opened but bear remains in same origin old note

I’m quite unsure this can be handily achieved with Shortcuts but I have an alternative workflow to propose.

  • Select the text
    • Here you can change the name of the link/new note title
  • Hit CMD+D to turn the text into a Wiki Link
  • Click the link to create the new note

Hi Chris,
Here is a shortcut that may work for you, but needed to add Copy & Paste to the workflow:

Link2NewNote - Shortcut

  1. Select Text (body for new note)
  2. Copy (selected text)
  3. Run this Shortcut and enter title (as prompted)
(shortcut will return to bear with original note and selection still active)
  4. Paste (generated link to replace selected text)

Voilà – You got a link to your new note (created by shortcut in the background)

Works on MacOS, iOS and iPadOS

Add a keyboard shortcut as you please.
