Testing version: 0.1 (571) on iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (3rd generation), iOS 14.4
What were you doing: typing on floating keyboard
What feature did you use: custom keyboard
What happened: custom keyboard not available
What did you expect to happen: the button to activate the Polar keyboard should be available with the floating keyboard, or the custom keyboard should appear as a toolbar at the bottom of the screen when using the floating keyboard.
I’m afraid it’s not possible to add the custom keyboard button to the floating keyboard. Having the toolbar at the bottom of the screen in this case might be an interesting solution. Thanks for reporting this issue.
I don’t know if this behavior is new in 0.1 (1949), but I can get the toolbar at the botttom with the floating keyboard by doing the following:
Activate floating keyboard
Attach hardware keyboard (iPad Pro keyboard case)
Activate toolbar buttons
Detach hardware keyboard
The first time I did this the toolbar became very strange-shaped on the side of the screen, but I can’t replicate that. My trick above works well except for being really annoying and impractical…
Apple announced new APIs for handling the iPad’s floating keyboard and other keyboard configurations at WWDC 2021. The new API should allow us to have more control over virtual and hardware keyboards on iOS 15.
