Note Identifier vs Link to Note

What is the difference between them? I saw a tweet about how to copy the “note identifier” with a keyboard shortcut. I then discovered that if I put it in double brackets, that it acts like a link to that original note. Then there is an actual link to the note that can be copied that does the same thing… I don’t understand what the difference is, and why I would want to use one over the other.

The note ID can be used with the XCallback APIs and the Shortcuts actions to target a specific note. The note link is a specific XCallback call (/open-note) with the ID as parameter and is supposed to be used into other apps (Calendar, Reminders, Things, …) to reference a specific note.
