Tags Not Auto-Completing

  • What happened: Auto-Complete flashes then disappears
  • What did you expect to happen: Auto-Complete to pull up previously used tags

This just started….

When I try to tag a note the auto-complete portion after the # flashes on screen and then disappears. The auto-complete options had been working, I typed # and got a list of previously used tags. How can I get my auto-complete back? All tags that are no longer auto-completing are in the tag list, nothing has been deleted.

Do you by chance have “Reduce Transparency” turned on in your System Settings under Accessibility > Display? That was an issue previously and might still be.

Thanks for responding! I did have Reduce Transparency turned on and I turned it off. I restarted Bear and the issue is not resolved.

Have you tried to reboot your Mac?

Rebooting my Mac did not resolve the issue. When I start to input a previously used tag the autofill flashes and immediately disappears.

Do you have any app installed changing how the macOS windows system works or any “grammar” app that adds functionalities to TextViews? If this is the case, try to turn them down.

Environment

  • macOS: Tahoe 26.1

  • Bear version: 2.6.6

  • Hardware: Intel Mac

What I’ve already tested

  • Disabled all macOS keyboard and text input features:

    • Predictive text

    • Inline predictions

    • Auto-correction

    • Smart punctuation

  • Restarted text services (textcomposerd, TextInputMenuAgent)

  • Verified no third-party grammar, text expansion, or input apps installed

  • Removed/disabled Microsoft apps and OneDrive background services

  • Rebuilt Bear database (deleted database.sqlite, -shm, -wal files after backup)

  • Verified Bear data integrity and full restore

  • Issue persists after all of the above

Observations

  • This appears to be an NSTextView focus loss during composition

  • The autocomplete popover is shown, then dismissed immediately

  • Inserting tags via the sidebar or pasting #tag works reliably

  • Typing at the start of a line is slightly more reliable but not consistent

At this point I think I need to open an issue with Bear.

FIXED!! I turned off full keyboard access in system settings. Thanks everyone!!
