There is no keyboard shortcut to quickly add a callout.
if you create a callout and hit backspace you get a simple callout “>” but you won’t get the select menu again unless you tip “[!” which is something I had to find on the community because there is no info about the syntax on the app.
if you try to change the callout type and mistakenly select the same type of callout you have, the callout is deleted and you have to select the text and go to the toolbar again to create another one.
you can’t nest callouts using the toolbar (inside a callout if you go to the toolbar and press the callout option the main callout changes to that type or is deleted if you select the same type).
I don’t think this is a bug but would be nice. As a programmer, I’m used to creating open and close tags for everything before typing the content. in this particular case, if I’m typing the code for callout “>[!note]” the first thing I write is “>” and then “!” so the select menu appears. once I select an option I get the closing bracket as the callout title. It would be nice if you detected that closing bracket and ignore it.
Callouts autocomplete the translated word, so it won’t work (It does not happen with the BIU bar, only the select menu and only on the callout creation, so modifying the callout type with the select menu will work):
Weird glitch on completing tasks inside a callout
callouts breaks if a new line is insert between nested callouts. This also happens if the cursor is before the icon and press enter:
Suggestion: As i mentioned in a comment previously, there is no keyboard shortcut for this feature but a workaround would be to use the same shortcut as the block quote, as it inserts a “>” so 1 press at shift+cmd+T shows the quote and if you press again it deletes the quote. Would it be possible to add a step between? 1 press shows the quote, the second press shows the select menu (as if it inserts ‘[!’ after the previous “>”), and then the third press deletes the quote. I think this could be useful for using this feature with no typing.
Thanks!
(Edit: i’ve previously published this on the announcement category instead of the beta category, so i’ve deleted it from there and post it here)
The autocomplete and task completion bugs should be fixed with the yesterday beta!
This is by design as callouts behave exactly like list/blockquotes. I understand it might be not what you’re looking for and we’ll have a chat about that, but not closing the block when pressing enter on an empty line will make it very difficult to exit a callout.
Yes, you can always set a custom one if you need. We’ve added a new quicker way to open the auto-complete menu, now you just have to write > ! and the callout menu will be presented to you.
So, there is no technical possibility to do that 3 steps keyboard shortcut? I think it is the most logical thing given that callouts start with quotes “>”
