Backslash in title of Day One imports

I have imported my Day One entries on Mac. Titles are the date like yyyy-MM-dd EEE, e.g. 2025-12-01 Mon. When clicking inside the title it shows as # 2025\-12\-01 Mon. Because of this, I can’t search for part of the title, like ‘2025-12’ for all entries for this December or ‘12-01’ for all entries ‘on this day’.

Is there a way to prevent these backslashes being inserted?

Import settings:

Hello. I’m not sure why, but the dates report the slashes in the DayOne exported JSON file inside the archive.

I can’t provide a way to avoid this in Bear because what it’s doing is correct, considering the source, but you can try the following:

  • Uncompress the archive exported from DayOne
  • Open the resulting folder’s Journal.json, replace all \\- with -, and save
  • Delete the original archive and compress the folder
  • Import the new archive in Bear with Import From > DayOne

Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t looked at the source yet. I will try and report back afterwards.

I’ve tried your suggestion and it worked perfectly. Thanks.
