Bear and Liquid Glass

Will Bear adopt Liquid Glass? I’m just curious. I think Bear would look super clean with it. Also curious how it would affect theming.

Liquid glass is really awful in my opinion. Reducing legibility both on the user interface and the content behind.

So not looking forward to it…

A little confused on your statement about reduction of legibility of content behind. Doesn’t anything that is behind something else have reduced legibility?

And that’s fair (your opinion of Liquid Glass). It’s coming regardless, so I’m curious if Bear will be adopting it and to what degree.

That’s the issue with the new liquid glass:

The control “toolbar” have no background so you see the content. Then each buttons have their background with liquid glass so you effectively see the content behind with this effect.

All this together reduce legibility. So basically removing the toolbar “opaquy” background the UI gains nothing on seeing the content behind as you need to actually scroll anyway.

E.g. with some photos

Or this (albeit I concede they made some improvement in safari by actually making an opaque background in the toolbar in the latest beta.

Strangely the screen shots appear a tad more readable than in reality, this is possibly due to screen brightness and/or other settings at play.

If the whole OS will be in Liquid Glass, wouldn’t it make sense for Bear to adopt it? Idk how many apps will be using this new style however.

It’s up to the developers to adopt it. Their app would probably look out of place if they didn’t.

They’ve made pretty good improvements in IMO. I think Apple will keep refining as well.
