Dates in New Notes

I appreciate that this may be a “me-only” request, but on the off chance it’s not, I thought I would throw the request into the ring.

While I understand that note dates are available both in the sidebar and in the info panel, I like to have them available in the note itself. Apple Notes has the date (either created or modified, depending on if you click) at the top of the note. In OneNote, the created date is right below the short line under the title of the note. I know this might sound like sacrilege, but I actually prefer the way that OneNote does this.

I know that it is relatively easy to insert the date, but I find it useful to date all my notes and would prefer that (1) it happened automatically, and (2) that it appeared in a consistent place. I also know that you can set a preference so that each new note has the date at the top; however, I prefer to have the actual note title at the very top, and would prefer if a smaller font version of the date appeared either right below the main title, or at the very top of the note.

I understand that this is rather persnickety and may be of interest only to me. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, they are always appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe this Apple shortcut does it for you:

It creates a new Bear note with:

  • empty title (h1)
  • custom date on second line in italics
  • a couple of blank lines below that
  • and opens it in bear, ready for you to “fill in the blanks”

Modify as you please:

Part of the reason I love apps like Bear is because of the community. This was just what I was looking for - very helpful and appreciated. Thank you.
