I’ve used several markdown apps. Ulysses, Bear (love it), Obsidian, Outerline, Panda, UpNote, Drafts (love it) iA Writer, and several others. iA Writer is my current go-to for markdown.
My initial impression of Lettera: Fantastic! Like Bear, I just like the look/fonts/feel. So far it’s doing everything I want for my simple markdown needs. It’s hard to say why, but it is just fun to use.
I look forward to putting the app through its paces and see how it goes.
I’m new to Lettera’s Beta as of yesterday but a long, long time user of Bear, one who appreciates the slower and thoughtful development of their note-taking app.
I’ll just give two first impressions, as requested.
I quite like the muted grey background. Overall it’s a pleasant experience within which to write. I have scanned other posts in this forum and know that there are those beta testers who would like more themes, such as Bear offers. I’m not among those votes (I have identified one Bear theme I like and I stick with it). I appreciate having fewer distractions, such as multiple themes, that in my workflow, interfere with my focus. As this is a writing-centered app, I would opt for fewer themes. It’s good as is – of course, that being my first impression (from one whose go-to writing space is iA Writer so you can infer the foundation of my preference )
I also quite like the wiki link capability, but I was a bit confused when first trying to implement it because I tried that technique of creating a new file by making a new wiki link. That confusion was really on me as I was simply trying to reproduce a move I can do in other apps. I’m sure that over time, you’ll implement back linking and so forth that will mimic Bear.
These are simply my first impressions. I know it’s Beta so I’ll put one of my minor projects into Lettera and kick the tires, reporting bugs and whatnot for a few weeks. Overall first look is a big for a thoughtful development team.
