I’m experiencing a capitalization issue in Bear on my iPhone when using swipe/gesture typing.
For example, when I swipe-type a heading or sentence that should appear as:
This is a test
Bear sometimes enters:
THIS is a test
Initially, the problem was more severe and Bear was entering everything in ALL CAPS.
What I’ve tested:
The problem does not occur in Apple Notes.
I was originally using Gboard, where the capitalization problem occurred consistently.
I deleted Gboard and switched to the stock Apple keyboard.
I restarted Bear and also deleted/reinstalled Bear after confirming my Bear Pro notes were synced with iCloud.
With the stock Apple keyboard, normal tap typing now works correctly.
However, when I use Apple’s QuickPath/swipe typing in Bear, the capitalization problem returns.
Auto-Capitalization settings have also been toggled during troubleshooting, without resolving the swipe-typing behaviour.
The issue has occurred in headings and, at times, regular body text.
At this point, the behaviour appears specifically related to swipe/gesture input in Bear. Regular typing with the Apple keyboard works correctly, while QuickPath/swipe typing can incorrectly capitalize an entire word.
Has anyone else experienced this recently, or is this a known issue with Bear and iOS QuickPath/third-party swipe keyboards?
UPDATE – Issue isolated to Bear title + Apple QuickPath/swipe typing
I’ve done additional troubleshooting and have now been able to isolate the issue much more precisely.
I originally suspected Gboard, so I removed Gboard completely and tested using only the stock Apple keyboard. I also reset the iPhone keyboard dictionary, restarted the iPhone, reinstalled Bear after confirming my Bear Pro/iCloud sync, and tested the same input in other apps.
Here is what I’ve found:
Apple keyboard with normal tap typing in Bear: Works correctly
Apple keyboard using QuickPath/swipe typing in Bear body text: Works correctly
Apple keyboard using QuickPath/swipe typing in a Bear title: First word is incorrectly entered in ALL CAPS
Apple QuickPath in Apple Notes: Works correctly
Apple QuickPath in Safari: Works correctly
Resetting the Apple keyboard dictionary: No change
Reinstalling Bear: No change
For example, when creating a Bear title:
Normal tap typing: Make a test note
Apple QuickPath/swipe typing: MAKE a test note
Only the first word of the Bear title is affected. The remaining words in the title and subsequent body text are entered normally.
Since Apple’s QuickPath works correctly in Notes and Safari, and regular tap typing also works correctly in Bear, the issue appears to be specifically related to the interaction between Bear’s title field and iOS QuickPath/swipe input.
