iOS widgets always use Red Graphite as the accent color, ignoring the in-app theme. A separate menu for widget themes would make them feel more connected.
Another inconsistency is with the launch animation which also always uses the red graphite theme.
this would be so cool to have the widgets match the in app theme
I would also very much appreciate if the bear widgets would assume the theme colors or if it would be possible to have separate themes for the widgets only. Currently the deep black widget doesn’t fit nicely into the “optics” of iOS since most dark themed widgets are in a dark grey style. Attached you can find an example where the difference is very visible.
Are the Bear devs active in this forum? Will we get any feedback? It would be nice to have a two way conversation.
I made this suggestion a while ago https://community.bear.app/t/widgets-and-tinted-modes/13974, but never received a response.
The developers are very active on the forum. But now it’s clear that it’s not something absolutely essential.
I’ve been in this forum for years, and devs do read and engage. However, they are a very small team, and do not respond to every post.
Hello. Yes, we try to read everything but we are generally more interested in what other people think/want and we try not to influence the discussion. Unfortunately, some discussions do not engage multiple users for different reasons. Maybe people don’t care or are ok with the current implementation.
Bear’s widgets are designed to fit iOS/macOS aesthetics rather than Bear’s because they have to live inside the home screen and I still think this is the right choice. Maybe some adjustments can be made but we also tried to have a good text contrast.
Aesthetics will always be a personal thing, so I completely understand the need to prioritize. That said, I think Bear widgets would benefit from at least rendering a note’s markdown when content is displayed (in the Random Note widget for instance). If that’s at all possible. Right now, the text in widgets doesn’t reflect a note’s appearance which just uniformly flattens everything. Formatting would help with differentiation at a glance—and add a bit of flair.
Just a thought. Great update today btw
I am I think in a minority here but my home screen was almost all bear and so having everything—all app icons and widgets—match bear instead of the other way around made more sense to me.
