Please support markdown remote images

Please allow using standard markdown (common mark, which bear uses) for remote images. ![](https://remote_image.png).

There are numerous discussions regarding this subject (see here) but seems it’s still didn’t make it’s way to bear. It would be really helpful to use various web-clippers, get images from readwise’s markdown export and many more automations possible rather than fiddling with workarounds. As I see the preview feature already exists for links and images, so might not be a big technical challenge to implement this ? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hello again, is bear team considering this feature ? will be a lot useful. I don’t see a major challenge in implementing this or is it ? can you please tell us the complexity of this and why this native markdown feature is not supported ?

As mentioned before, we are more interested in understanding if a feature requests a community interest rather than providing our opinion on it. I can see this might be interesting for Panda but yes, this comes with some challenges.

Thanks for getting back, I think many of the people are interested in this feature given multiple discussions asking for it. Other users might chime in to provide their opinion in this thread to make this feature’s way to bear

Normally, when I add an image to Bear, I prefer it to be copied inside the note rather than hotlinked from the source. If I save something, it’s because I’d like to preserve it in case the original source goes offline, otherwise, I would just save the links to the source (as I do for bookmarks).

So, I have no objection to supporting this possibility, but I hope that in that case, the default remains downloading and saving the files in the local database.

Same. I see no problem with supporting markdown remote image syntax, but I would want embedded images to remain the default for captured pages and copy/paste. Additionally, depending on the source, linked images embed tracking info. This is why email clients often default to not display linked images and I would want that option available in Bear for markdown links.
