Share to Bear from apple share menu

I don’t seem to be able to get Bear to appear on the share menu on macOS - there doesn’t appear to be a ‘share to bear’ extension listed to enable under the system settings.

I can share to drafts or apple notes or any number of apps, but not bear.

What am I missing, or does Bear not have a share to bear extension?

I can confirm Bear doesn’t have a macOS sharing extension at the moment.

That’s interesting, because your welcome docs specifically reference it. I just installed it and was reading the welcome docs, and spent some time trying to figure out how to make it work.

I thought I was going nuts. This is honestly baffling to me that this doesn’t exist for Bear — the one simple and native notes app for macOS and best alternative to Apple Notes. Why is this not a thing? It drives me nuts cause I’m looking for it all the time. I remember now that this was one of the things that kept Bear from being my go-to notes app. Not having this creates a lot of friction especially with how used to this flow I’ve gotten with Apple Notes. It’s a shame. I hope this gets added soon.

I’ve found this to be incredibly frustrating with Bear as well, and it’s limited my ability to use it professionally. Many people have voiced dissapointment about it on Reddit for years. Maybe in 2025 it will get some love.

Is this something that is on the list to add to Bear, since you said “at the moment?”

Yes, it is, and I will probably focus on this and a new iOS sharing extension after releasing the new encryption layer, ADP, and fixing 2.4 bugs.

I think share extensions for macOS and iOS might allow you to deprecate the Safari and Chrome extensions too, which tightens up the product overall.

I would much rather have a share function than to have to use the chrome extension :ok_hand:t3:

That’s great news! Glad to hear that.

Interestingly, you can use the “Send to Bear” service — however, it only works if the document is already saved.
