Tags with automatic encryption

It’d be nice to set a tag such that anything with that tag or a nested tag gets encryption.

E.g., I’d like to tell bear to encrypt #personal/journal so any new notes created under that are automatically protected.

This would be cool. I’d still rather bear just be compatible with ADP so that everything is E2EE and I don’t have to worry about it. I digress. I’m going to assume that the devs response to this request would be the same “you can lock individual notes with a password” that those of us who bring up true zero knowledge encryption get. (See the thread on here about E2EE)

How would that fit in the user experience? When should the note get locked? Immediately after writing the tag? If not when else or what to do if you create a new note with that tag? Should that note be unlocked as long as there is no content added to it? And so on

Exactly why I think they should just enable ADP for us users with up-to-date devices

But this won’t help users in UK anymore. From today’s Economist:

Someone in the thread about E2EE said that E2EE (without ADP) would still be feasible as a solution, also for UK users. I’m guessing that’s correct.

Well regardless, as of right now nobody can use ADP with Bear. So it doesn’t really change anything I would think.

We’ve gotten a bit off topic here. I’m not asking for Advanced Data Protection in this feature request.

Although I would like ADP as well, this specifically is for having a note automatically be encrypted when a certain tag is applied.

Even with ADP, there are use cases for protecting individual notes behind a passcode/Touch ID/Face ID. The idea is to create a separate tier of security you can apply some notes to but not others.

If someone has my device in an unlocked state (this is a popular tactic among thieves and is the reason for the Stolen Device Protection feature), individually protected notes means the thief still has another hurdle to access those.

Another use case: if I’m using Bear in a crowded space (say, to view my grocery list) and someone is shoulder surfing, I would like for particularly sensitive notes to remain concealed unless I explicitly unlock them.

Advanced Data Projection while important (and yes! Can we get that also?) doesn’t provide this.

Apple Notes is a great example of an app that is protected with ADP and allows individual notes to be further protected with a password.
