Thank You (not forced downloaded files)

Just a “thank you” and you can delete this, but…

With Lettera, I just opened a folder containing files stored in iCloud and offloaded. Lettera did not try to download those files. Thank you. Some apps force download files to view them. Maybe this is a “duh” thing to say and that Lettera is just looking at the contents of the folder. Anyhow. I’m grateful that I can view and only download what I want/need.

Thank you for noticing it! We put some effort to correctly integrate iCloud folders

Thank you!

I’d wager you’ll write again and change your mind once some way to globally search notes is available and your offloaded files aren’t included in results

I have a bad habit of filling up any computer drive - no matter the capacity - to the point where my machines crash… So “save offline only” saves the day for me…

I can recall which, but I installed an app that downloaded EVERYTHING!

Oops! I hadn’t even thought of that when I was considering setting the iCloud folder as the default folder once the settings arrive. I am not experienced with the iCloud folder at all. At some point I will surely buy an iPad. Is there a way to take care that all files are available offline on both devices? If not, is there any service (drop box, …) that would allow that?

You’re good, krssno! Sorry to confuse…

Available offline is the default for iCloud, so you are good!

All your iCloud files are there for you, unless you’ve selected “Optimize Mac Storage” (which you’d find under System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud (Drive) > Optimize Mac Storage).

I have this turned on because I want to save hard drive space and have things online only, NOT on my machine. So, I can see the files, but they are not downloaded until I either try to open them or choose to manually download them. I do this file by file.

Would they also be available offline on the iPad?

I don’t know how Lettera is supposed to work on the iPad… but can tell you - in general - the iPad has a similar setting to macOS. In the iPad Files app, you can choose “Keep Downloaded on this Device” for files or folders as you wish.

Apple gives you the flexibility to keep the files on the device or store them in iCloud as you want.

(hope this helps!)

Just to put my mind at ease, I can say that I wouldn’t buy an iPad just for Lettera. We’ll see what happens when the time comes.
