Touch Bar Support for Basic Text Formatting

Operation system: MasOS

Web Browser: Safari

Bug report

What were you doing: Text formatting.

What feature did you use: Touch Bar.

What happened: Didn’t work properly.

What did you expect to happen: For it to work properly

Feedback: I just started using Bear today and was disappointed to find that it doesn’t have basic Touch Bar support. Found out there is a new beta web version of the app and thought maybe the web version would have TB support. It does. Sort of. Underline worked but bold and italic did not. I understand that the Touch Bar hasn’t been a feature of new MacBooks for a while now but there are still plenty of people who use the older MacBooks and use the Touch Bar as part of their workflow. Being able to do quick basic text formatting on the fly with the TB would be greatly appreciated. It’s a lot more convenient than using markdown and way less clunky than using the keyboard shortcuts when focused on just writing. At least for us “non-typers”. Just the standard bold, italic and underline is all we really need and shouldn’t be too hard to include in both the app and the web interface.

Apple discontinued the Touch Bar, so I wouldn’t rely on it for future workflows. I doubt devs aren’t going to spend time on a discontinued feature. I would adapt your workflow and avoid using it. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s inevitable that you won’t be using it anywhere in the future.

Apple has fully discontinued the Touch Bar on all new MacBooks as of October 31, 2023, marking the end of this feature after seven years. The decision was made as Apple shifted back to physical function keys in their latest models.

I can confirm we no longer intend to support the Touch Bar.
