Allow for tighter scoping of tag hierarchy in Notes list

Acknowledging that this issue is addressed (though with a different suggested feature) in another post. My proposal is a slightly different approach, but it’s addressing the same issue.

As a user that is using nested tags of N levels of depth, when I am viewing level N-K, I would like the ability to only view the notes at level N-K, rather than all notes at and beneath that level.

eg. If I have a note at “Work/Sprints/2026/05 May/21/Issue1234”, I want to be able to also have a note at “Work/Sprints/2026/05 May/21” . When viewing my tag hierarchy, if I click on that node, seeing all of the notes underneath that level in addition to any notes at that level is very noisy.

A straightforward way I believe this could be implemented is to have a toggle button at the top of the list (near the Write/Search icons) that allows you to specify “Show notes from this exact position in the hierarchy” (have your UX people come up with a better name).

Enabling this toggle would make the list only show notes that have exactly the tag at that level of the hierarchy, and nothing further.

Disabling the toggle would display that level and below, as it behaves currently.

Hello there,

If I’m understanding your request correctly, this feature already exists in Bear! Just select “Hide Subtag Notes” and you’ll only see notes for the current tag, not its subtags.
