Another plea to extend tables with tab key

As I settle in to the joy of using Bear 2 on a daily basis for work and personal note-taking and find myself pleasantly surprised again with the thought “oh yeah, I can add a table!” … and then get reminded of this missing feature.

I’d like to revive an old request and make another plea for using a tab key in the last cell of a table to add a row and place the cursor in the first cell of the new (last) row of a table. This is the behavior of just about every other table-editing software and, since pressing the tab key in the last cell of a table in Bear 2 currently does absolutely nothing, seems like a great opportunity for improvement.

If, for some reason, the entire architecture of the Bear 2 re-write would be undone by adding this feature, is there any chance you could hack in something like this for us?

if [in last cell of table] and [tab key pressed] {
  simulate key sequence: [add row shortcut] [up arrow] [tab]
}

I totally agree with Burke’s suggestion. In many apps the tab key is default behavior to add a row to a table and move the cursor to the left most cell in the table.

The current command is cumbersome, difficult to remember as it is not used in many apps and it also doesn’t move the cursor to the left cell of the new row.

It would greatly speed up working with tables if a simple tab in the last cell would add a new row.

Thanks for (re)considering this!

I just encountered this, and I was flabbergasted that I could not do this. This is the most basic expectation when working in a GUI with tables. The keyboard short cut for new row is a bit awkward and cumbersome, and the basic principle of just tabbing from one cell to the next to the NEXT ROW…is so assumed, that it is shocking to me it’s not there.

This alone has seriously made me wonder if I will subscribe after my trial. This is a deep gap in expected functionality.

as I finish typing this, I just noticed this is a Panda forum, but the comment applies exactly the same to Bear
