Fantastic work guys.
Is there any chance of an app-specific password on Bear Web? I feel slightly uneasy using my Apple password on machines I don’t fully control.

I’d like to know this too!
Your Bear data is stored on iCloud server and accessed via CloudKit. To access Bear Web need your iCloud password.
Does Bear Web (Shiny Frog) see the password though? My understanding is that access is authenticated through Apple and they just tell you guys “yep - they are who they say they are” and they give you a token to access the data in iCloud.
No, we don’t have access to the password or the email used to access Bear Web.
Yes, this is pretty much what’s happening. The login form prompted is the same required to access iCloud.com and is not on our servers but Apple’s.
