Hi, the new Bear Web is great but I am constantly being asked to authenticate. Is there a way of reducing this or is it an Apple constraint?
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. For the time being if you want the session to survive after closing the tab / browser window, you can tick the āTrust this deviceā item in the top left menu. Note that this is experimental and likely to change in the near future.
Thanks, I have done that but I am being asked to authenticate every couple of hours. Using Chrome browser on a Dell laptop running Windows 11
right, and is that even if you tick the ākeep me signed inā checkbox on the sign-in form?
Yes, I found that tick box as soon as logged in for the first time and selected it.
Me too ā Iāve already checked āTrust this deviceā, but every time I visit web.bear.app, it still asks me to sign in to my Apple account again.
+1 ā Even with āTrust this deviceā enabled, I have to sign in to iCloud every time I open Bear Web, even after a simple refresh. In DevTools, the CloudKit database request returns 421 AUTHENTICATION_REQUIRED and redirects to the Apple ID sign-in page.
Hi @zhengxin thatās not what happens to most users: simply reloading the tab should definitely retain the session information. Can I ask what browser are you using, and if you have extensions active (and which ones)? That would be super helpful, thanks in advance!
Hi @bru , Iāve tried multiple browsers, including Chrome (with no extensions) on both Windows and Mac, as well as Safari on iOS, and the issue occurs every time. This makes me think itās less likely a problem with Bear itself and more likely related to my account. Iām based in Mainland China and wonder if Apple requires re-login each time. But can Bear do to help prevent this?
Everytime I refresh my tab, I notice this request failed:
And if I use a nonāChina Mainland Apple account, thereās no problem: I donāt need to login again each time. I wonder if Bear needs to implement some additional configuration to address this issue for China Mainland users?
Hi @zhengxin sorry for replying only now.
Yes, mainlan China accounts definitely follow different rules. Sadly the differences are not well documented, weāre actively investigating though and will keep you posted.
Thanks @bru ā looking forward to the fix! I also checked Appleās documentation but couldnāt find any relevant details. Itās fairly common for similar unknown issues to appear in Appleās sovereign regions.
