Bear 2.3.11 beta update

Read-only is supposed to be global and sync as notes changes or pin status. Are you sure you are not in a mismatch versions situation?

Have 2.3.11 (13182) on both iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Am I the only beta user with this issue?

Tested both ways:

  1. new note on ipad, syncs to iPhone
  2. Set read only on note on ipad, but no status update on iphone
  3. New regular note on ipad, syncs to iPhone
  4. Still no update on read only status on first note to iphone.
  5. set make editable on first note on ipad
  6. Add some text in this note on ipad, but it’s not synced to iphone.
  7. Add some text to this note on iphone, resulting in sync conflict …

Same issue opposite way: all steps above (but from iphone to ipad).

PS. Setting read only on note from editor menu on iPhone → BIU keyboard menu still visible.

Setting Make Editable on read only note from editor menu on iPhone → BIU keyboard menu missing.

Only exit and re-enter note, fixes this issue.

This is not an issue on iPad, but only on iPhone (16 Pro Max)

how does someone become a beta tester? is it via testflight? or selection like web alpha

TestFlight but we currently don’t have available seats for the beta

I have the exact same issue.

oh okay, thank you for the response. Would love to be a beta tester in the future!

Yes. Even editing next to a wikilink is an instant crash. I use Wikilinks alot = a lot of crashes!

Does this update include the fix referred to here?

will be included in the final update but is currently in the beta available to the testers.

Any ETA on this issue?

A couple of minor issues in Read Only mode:

  1. Triple tap to select paragraphs does not work.
I really love the Read Only mode, I have a repository of quotes etc that I now will make Read Only, but need to be able to easily select and copy paragraphs from here that I will use in other current notes (Triple tap works in editable mode)
  2. When double tapping words in bold or italics (in read only mode), selection get confused and wrongly offset, so not easy to select and copy single words or terms that are in italics or bold.

Hope these issues are easy to fix

Thank you very much for this new Read Only mode

I think I have the same issue initially shortly after updating the apps to the beta, but it works today. read only all syncs across devices within a few seconds pretty much.

on another read only note. similar to what krissno said, i expected the collapsable note feature to still work on the read only notes. since the caret is there, and it doesn’t affect the actual ‘writability’ of the note, its a display feature imo…

not sure if thats deliberate.

A beta update should be available via TestFlight. This build should address the wiki links issue, other bugs and feedback reported here.

Love the last beta, specially that we can now toggle folding in Read Only mode and also that folding doesn’t trigger modification date anymore, even in Editable mode :+1:

Syncing and wiki linking now seems to work flawlessly.

Well done, thanks a lot :rose::pray:

excellent, foldable sections work nicely

The sections are now (un)foldable. You just have forgotten to activate the three-dots-button for unfolding a section. It doesn’t work because it seems to be locked further on.

they are with the > but yeah, just noticed that as well, not unfordable from the ... button

it seems to be a Mac only issue though, its unfoldable on the iPhone and iPad via that button.

An obvious request for the read only feature: the corresponding search expression “@readonly”.

Also it would make sense to have an option in the “web content preferences” that clipped notes are read only by default
