Bear vs Ulysses

I currently use Bear and Ulysses for writing and note-taking. Ulysses for blog writing and roleplaying gaming, and Bear for everything else. I’m looking to condense down into just using Bear. I have about 5,000 notes in Bear right now, but it will go up to between 10,000 and even 15,000 notes when I get everything moved over.

Has anyone seen any issues with this?

I have had Bear lock up for me a couple times for a minute or two on my iPad after I moved a number of text files over on my Mac. Is this just from syncing that change data?

Also, it doesn’t look like Ulysses exports into Markdown (boo!) That means copy/paste if I want to move all that data and keep the Markdown. I’m hoping someone has a better way to do that… any suggestions?

Hi, you can export top markdown from Ulysses. Click on the Share button in the toolbar. Select Text from the dropdown at the top of the window and select Markdown from the list. You can export multiple sheets by command-clicking on the ones you want to export.

You can also make use of Ulysses’ External Folders functionality to move files to Markdown in bulk:

And here’s someone using that to go to Obsidian, which would be more or less the same process:

Ooo!!! I forgot about those! Thanks—that saves me a ton of time and effort!
