Has anyone else noticed that recently there is a marked sluggishness when editing larger notes (>100kB)? I’m using Bear on macOS Tahoe but cannot say whether this started after updating to the latest (App Store) version of Bear or after upgrading to Tahoe.

I’ve also noticed it on iOS/iPadOS 26. On my larger notes (80k+ words) it can take 30-60 seconds to respond input, especially when using the table of contents.

The short answer is yes 
. Bear is slower, but only on the new OS/Swift updates.
It’s not an issue with Bear itself. If you’re running Bear on an OS version earlier than 26, performance should still be as fast as ever.
Unfortunately, Apple introduced some unexpected changes, and we’re actively working on adjustments. The next update should restore Bear’s performance on OS 26.
If you have any specific notes that are running slowly and you’re open to sharing them, please send them my way. I’ll use them to profile and verify that we’ve addressed all the issues.

Reopening this … @matteo, it seems the sluggish editing is still happening when editing a Note that has been surfaced by a search. To reproduce, search for any term that appears in a long Note, then edit this note with the search still highlighted in the Notes list. Curiously, this behavior seems to happen also when using the Find function within a Note, and it persists in the same Note even when closing the Find form. After restarting Bear and opening the Note (without first searching for anything), it works just fine.

Correct, it seems that the search has the same issue as the editor. You can just clear the search to prevent the slowness to happen, but we’ll have a fix ready asap.

For the last couple months (I think, could be more), Bear has been really sluggish. Like tap…wait…wait…didn’t wait long enough, got impatient, wiped out my formatting because I hit delete, or tried to select a passage blindly…hit back/undo…wait, wait, etc. Rinse and repeat. I just assumed it would clear eventually, and have put up with it because I love Bear, but it’s just as bad as ever and it moved me to finally search to see if I was the only one. Apparently I am not. See device specs below.
