Typing Becomes Slow and Laggy in Large Notes When Open Side by Side

Bear Version: 2.6.1 (13751)
OS Version: macOS 15.6.1

What I was doing: Working with two Bear notes side by side. Each note is very large (around 300k–400k characters).

Feature used: General typing, copy–paste from one note to another, and writing a few words.

Issue: When I type a few words, there’s a 3–4 second delay before the letters appear. While the letters appear slowly, it becomes super laggy and makes writing difficult.

Expected behavior: Typing and editing should work normally without noticeable delay.

Additional info:

  • I tried reinstalling Bear twice and restarting macOS, but the problem persists.

  • This is blocking urgent and important work. Because of this issue, I’m really unable to work or focus.

  • Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Updated MacOS to Tahoe 26.0 (25A354). The problem still Persists. I need help quickly, working on something very important rn.

Hey,

I’m on Tahoe 26.1 and I do see the same problem all of a sudden.

Is there a new version coming that fixes this? Or is there a temporary workaround? Really makes the app unusable ;(

I’ve had this, but this was related to other apps just hogging system resources. Killing them fixed the problem in Bear, but it seems like the app is extra sensitive to this for some reason

I too am experiencing the problem - but not on large notes: any notes. This problem is reproducible at will.

Steps taken:

  • Uninstalled Bear

  • Rebooted iPad Pro

  • Re-installed Bear

  • Waited for the sync to finish

  • Made sure no other apps were open (including any extra windows in, say, Pages)

  • The iPad is in “Windowed Apps” mode (though it also happens in “Stage Manager” mode

  • Started a brand new note. Note “A”

  • Star a brand new note. Note “B” Write something.

  • Switch to Note A. Type anything. It’s laggy

  • Close Note A

  • Writing in Note B is back to normal.

I am having the same issue as the post above. When I have multiple windows open, along with the lag I’m also experiencing odd behaviors with notes in other windows. For example, yesterday I opened a note in a separate window and as I scrolled through the note (2000-3000 words) the window just went blank. I could scroll, but the text was hidden.

Thanks for any help you can give. I rely on Bear for much of my work.
