Performance Issues

  • Bear Version: 2.3.10

  • OS Version: MacOS 15.2 and iOS 18.2.1

  • What were you doing: Editing a document of 85,311 words / 508k characters, zero attachments

  • What feature did you use: On MacOS, edit + Search, on iOS, edit

  • What happened: Severe delays were noticed, which were not expected given Shiny Frog mentions they test with the Bible as a note

  • What did you expect to happen: Regular performance

  • More Details:

On MacOS: Editing the note occurs quickly enough, as does opening it, but search inside the note takes ~30s for each letter to appear after typing it.
On iOS: Editing note (even tapping anywhere to start typing) takes a very long time to bring up editing tools. Similarly, dismissing OSK results in the same lag.

This lag is quite intense in Bear, a little present in Drafts but mostly not noticeable, but StandardNotes (an electron based app, of all things) performs absolutely flawlessly on the same note, even from iPhone.

That’s what I and the op of the linked thread also noticed:
