I have decided to move all of my notes into Bear, having previously kept some in Craft. However I am having issues bringing the dates across, and because I can’t change creation dates in Bear itself, it is important to me to have the original dates and not a bunch of notes with today’s date. Has anyone done this and would you be willing to share any tips? I’d be very grateful.
Hello,
You should be able to preserve your original dates when you import from Craft into Bear. I can do so in a repeatable manner on my Mac.
- export your folder of notes from Craft as markdown
- save the export to a folder on your Mac
- In Bear, select “import from markdown folder”
- select the folder of notes you had just saved
- make sure that you click on “show options” to expand your import options
- select “keep original and modification date”
- make whatever other import option choices you want re: title and tags
- select import notes to actually do the import into Bear
This should preserve your original creation and modified dates. I just did a repeat import run just now to confirm it works for me.
Best of luck to you in your migration!
Thank you so much. I was missing a key bit which was to import from a markdown folder, rather than just import from markdown notes. This maintained the dates, as far as I can tell so far. So grateful, thank you.
@nicg I highly recommend you try exporting Craft in .textbundle and import into Bear that way. My experience is that this is FAR superior to importing plain markdown.
@danmills7 Thanks for your thoughts. There certainly is a lot of tidying up to do with markdown. But I can’t maintain dates with the text bundle import, so sadly I can’t go with this, unless I find a way to do so.
