Extra Paragraphs in Clipped Web Pages — Web Clipper 2.0

  • Bear Version: 2.8.1
  • OS Version: Tahoe 26.5
  • What were you doing: Saving an article (Design Token Naming Conventions: A Practical Guide) using the Web Clipper 2.0 in Safari Version 26.5 (21624.2.5.11.4)
  • What feature did you use: Web Clipper 2.0
  • What happened: When the article opened in Bear, there was an extra empty paragraph inserted between each paragraph of content.
  • What did you expect to happen: For the content to be marked up in the same way as in the original article.

I’m half wondering if this is an intentional part of the clipper feature, given that many people will insert an empty paragraph between paragraphs to control paragraph spacing. However, as a semantically-focused web developer, I find this to be an anathema! I love that Bear lets me customize paragraph spacing in my Bear settings. I don’t want to have to remove those extra paragraphs from every article I clip to have the spacing in the clipped article reflect my preferred paragraph spacing setting. I hope this is just a bug!

Thanks!

I can confirm this is intentional. The idea is to have the resulting note resemble as much as possible what people see on the web page, and I think this concept works for the example reported too.
However, I can understand your preferences for spaceless paragraphs, considering their spacing can be set in Bear’s typography settings. If more people don’t like the current behaviour, we’ll consider adding an option to the web clipper.

I’m in favor of an option like that. I think anyone who uses the typography settings to display paragraph spacing in the editor would welcome such an option.

An option would be great! Typography/legibility nerds would rejoice.
