Getting started with Bear Web

Now you can use Bear right in your browser. Read the pinned post before testing.

About Bear Web

Bear Web is a web app designed to complement the native Bear apps on Mac, iPhone and iPad, providing you with the flexibility to access your notes from any web browser. It is primarily for situations where you cannot access the native Bear apps and need to browse, edit, or search your Bear notes. It is not intended to be used as a standalone note-taking solution and will have certain limitations due to Web app restrictions, such as export and sketcher.

:warning: A few things to keep in mind

  • Bear Web is in public beta, so things will improve as we go. Please do not use it for critical work and make sure to backup your notes regularly
  • A Bear Pro subscription is not required to access the Bear Web public beta. However, it is required to sync your notes with the native Bear apps, and will be required to access Bear Web once it’s out of beta
  • Advanced Data Protection (ADP) must be turned off to use Bear Web due to Apple’s restrictions

What’s the difference?

We are doing our best to bring the same Bear experience to your browser, but some features from the native apps may be unavailable or behave differently due to web limitations. Some features, like encryption and TagCons, are still on the way. You can check the release notes for the latest updates.

Bear’s keyboard shortcuts vary slightly between the native macOS version and the web version. These differences arise primarily due to system-specific key mappings and conflicts with browser shortcuts. You can check the full shortcut list here: Bear Web keyboard shortcuts

How to get started

  1. :warning: Back up your notes
  2. Open Bear Web in your browser and sign in with your Apple ID
  3. That’s it, you are in!

We’d love to hear your thoughts about Bear Web. If you run into a bug or want to share your feedback, please post in Bear Web category on the forum and join discussions here. When sharing feedback, please include the operating system and browser you’re using – it helps a lot!

Happy testing!

Thanks again for being a key part of the Bear journey. We can’t wait to see you access Bear on more devices, including Windows and Android!

I keep trying to sign into Bear web using the link in your message, but I get the error that it is still for invite only.

Never mind, I figured it out the right way. Thank you !!

Do you mind sharing what you figured out? I keep trying to sign in, but after the pop up disappears, nothing happens.

I have the same issue. What ended up being the resolution?

Nothing. It only works when I try to connect on my iPhone. Doesn’t work on my Mac Studio or my Windows laptop. I wasn’t able to get any answers so I just gave up.

I am in just fine using Brave browser on Windows 11! Basic stuff is working as expected. Thank you!

I’ve followed the instructions to get started. (Well, logged in ahead of doing a back-up.) My notes have not been synced to the web version - which was empty at the start of composing this message. And the reverse is also true: a couple test notes made in Bear for Web have not been synced to my iOS app.

Hi! This is very odd… sorry for the naive question, but can you confirm you’re using the same Apple ID on BearWeb that you are using on the iOS app, and that you have an active Bear subscription?

I don’t have Bear Premium. Is this required for sync?

Yes, Bear Web requires a Bear Pro subscription, since it relies on iCloud sync, which is one of the Bear Pro features. If you’re not a Pro user yet, you can start a free trial and try it out.

The first few times when I tried to login I got an error. The single-use link now gives me the error that Bear for web is currently invite-only, while I got the invite in my DM 10 minutes ago. I reckon it’s because the single-use link was used multiple times?

I am getting the same error, not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m a Pro user.

Update: fixed, turns out my iCloud data is stored on a different Apple ID

Will this work with ADP enabled?

After login my apple account in pop-up window, nothing happens.

I tried to use private windows, bear web showed verifying invite link for about 3 seconds, then nothing happened.

On Windows 11 Pro, using Brave Browser Version 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Here are some cases I tried:

  1. In a regular window. Used the URL with the “?ticket=” query. Logging in via the pop up window seemed to succeed - ie. no errors in the UI - but the main window still showed the Sign In with Apple prompt. Tried 3 times with the same result.
  2. In a regular window. Same process as #1 but used “https://web.bear.app”. Same result as #1.
  3. In a private window. Used the URL with the “?ticket=” query. Logging in succeeded, then the main window showed my synced notes. Success!
  4. In a new private window, after closing the previous private window. Used “https://web.bear.app”. Same process and result as #1.

After all that, I tried #3 again and that seemed to work.

Basic question: Signed up using Chrome on an Android device, and Bear Web works like a charm. Only issue is that whenever I close the tab/window, I have to go through the sign-in process again (even with “Keep men signed in” checked). Any way to avoid having to do that every time?

Hi. For the time being you can use the “trust this device” setting in the top left menu. This feature is experimental and likely to evolve during this phase, but should do the trick.

That works for now! Thanks!

Looks great so far. The holy grail for me is to be able to share active notes and co-edit. Will this bring Bear closer to that?
