iPadOS 26 Enhancements

  • Bear Version: 2.6.1
  • OS Version: iPadOS 26

There are a couple of enhancements I’d like to see to the Bear app for Windowed mode on iPadOS 26. Filing this under bug report because some of these do feel like bugs when the app is going against normal system behavior.

Menubar Reorganization

Most of the keyboard shortcuts the app already supports are currently crammed into the Help menu under More Keyboard Shortcuts. Most of these should move to the Format menu. Some might be better fit in a new Insert menu.

Also, going choosing Bear Settings from the Bear menu (or command-comma) goes to the Settings app. I think the new convention is that this should open the settings screen in the app if that’s where the settings mostly live.

Better Multi-window handling

Now that multi-window is going to be more common on iPadOS, I’d like if the multi-window behavior was more like the macOS version. For example:

  • I’d like to be able to open a note in a separate window with a double click/double tap, similar to the Mac version. (This is also the new behavior for Apple Notes and Messages.)
  • Dragging a note from the notes list outside the window should also open it in a separate window (as in Apple Notes)
  • Single-note windows should omit the note/tag browser and navigation and just show a single note.
  • Currently, open windows don’t show the note title in the Open Windows list under the Window menu or in the popup menu from the Dock. They just get named “Bear”, “Bear 1”, “Bear 2 etc.

I’m sure these are already on your list somewhere! Just wanted to make sure they were listed here.

all very solid suggestion. However I’d ask that the menu bar be organized the same way both in iOS and in the Mac
