macOS: Toolbar is blank

  • Bear Version: 2.6.4
  • OS Version: Sequoia 15.7.2
  • What were you doing: When editing a note
  • What feature did you use: Toolbar is blank during normal editing
  • What happened: Toolbar is blank with no icons
  • What did you expect to happen: Normal toolbar

I no longer see the icons on the toolbar when in edit mode. I can click on the three dots to access a menu of the toolbar options, but I don’t see the icons anymore.

Please try updating to Bear 2.6.5 and, if the problem persists, reboot your Mac.

I updated to Bear 2.6.5 and rebooted and the problem persists.

That’s a feature and not a bug. Consider it as focus mode: while editing a note the toolbar on Mac app disappears.

Or do you mean moving mouse pointer doesn’t help to show toolbar again? That would be weird

The toolbar is persistent and hovering over the toolbar with the mouse doesn’t reveal the icons. Clicking on the toolbar buttons also doesn’t reveal the icons.

Just in case this is somehow a problem with the application bundle, can you try to delete Bear.app in your Applications folder and reinstall?

Deleting Bear and reinstalling worked. Thanks!

I have the exact same problem: when working on a note while the sidebar is active, the icons in the toolbar (in my case at the bottom of the note) are not showing. Just a grey field and a tooltip showing:

Have you tried to delete Bear.app and re-install?

Thank you, Trix180,

yes, I actually have and it solved my problem. I should have read more of the comments before writing. Thank you kindly for your reply,

Olaf

I faced the same problem today.

  • I changed theme - issue persisted
  • I quit the app and reopened - issue persisted
  • I quit the app and reopened 3 times - on third attempt icons are back.

Have you tried to remove Bear.app from your applications folder and reinstall?
