Problem with sync

Operation system: Windows 10, iOS 26.5

Web Browser: Brave 1.90.122


After editing a note on one device, I switch to another device and the note duplicates — one of the notes contains the information I added, the other does not. Also, a “duplication” icon (?) appears under the note. How do I remove this icon and how can I avoid this situation altogether?

Hi! This happens when you edit notes in “parallel” on two devices (in this case, I guess the web and the iPhone). If one of the two devices can’t reach the network and sync immediately, the notes will diverge (for example the edits you did on the iphone will be different from the edit you did on the web). When that happens, Bear duplicates the note so that you can review the changes and pick which version to keep (and possibly edit it to include the relevant changes from both). Then you can simply delete one of the versions, and the “duplication” icon will disappear.

Hi! Thanks for the explanation — that makes sense for how the duplicate was created in the first place. However, my issue is a bit different: I already deleted one of the duplicate versions and even emptied the trash, but the duplication icon is still showing on the remaining note.

Any idea why the icon persists after removing the other version completely? Is there a way to force-refresh or manually clear that flag?

ha! Now I understand, thanks for the clarification.

A couple of questions to help us debug the situation:

  1. just to confirm, you are left with just one duplicate note right? (in some cases it is possible to end up with multiple conficting notes, and the icon is removed when only one of the conflicting notes remain that is not trashed or archived)
  2. do you remember if you deleted the conflicting note from the web app or from another device?

Hi! Yes, that’s correct — I’m left with just one note now. I deleted the conflicting version from the web app. I also emptied the trash, but I did that in the macOS app. The icon is still showing on the remaining note.
