Restoring a Backup is crashing in Bear 1 after Bear 2

Testing version:

1.9.6 (9044)

What were you doing:

Attempting to restore a backup from a backup file made a few days ago after installing Bear 2.0 and then renaming Bear.app to Bear2.0.app and restoring Bear.app from a Time Machine backup.

What feature did you use:

Restore Backup.

What happened:

Bear.app crashed with this exception:

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

What did you expect to happen:

Bear.app 1.9.6 would restore my notes back to the point at which they were before I tried Bear 2.0.

Any help available for this? I just want to be able to restore the older version.

Reading again, I am a bit confused. Why did you rename your app? What did you want to achieve? Are you trying to restore B1 notes into B2? Cuz they doesn’t seem compatible.

If this is a Mac try deleting the folder under

after deleting the app. And then redownload again.

If you want to revert back to Bear 1 do the following:

  • Delete all the Bear apps on your devices
  • Delete this folder on mac ~/Library/Group Containers/9K33E3U3T4.net.shinyfrog.bear
  • In System Preferences > iCloud > Manage > Bear > Delete all data
  • Re-install Bear 1
  • Restore your backup

Standard best practice for making a change; save what you had that was working instead of just deleting it.

If what I was attempting did not work, and it did not, then I could delete the current Bear.app — the 1.0 version — and rename Bear2.0.app back to Bear.app and still have access to my notes, albeit in Bear 2.0, not Bear 1.0.

Thank you. Exactly what I was looking for.
