Strg + c doesn't work correctly if no text is selected and no undo is possible

Operation system: Windows 10 22H2

Web Browser: Vivaldi 7.6.3797.58 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)

Bug report

What were you doing:

I was copying, cutting and pasting text around.

What feature did you use:

I used the shortcuts Ctrl+c, Ctrl+x and Ctrl+v.

What happened:

I selected a lot of text and cut it out to my clipboard with Ctrl+x. Then I navigated to the right position in the same document and accidentally pressed Ctrl+c (new copying) instead of Ctrl+v (pasting). After pressing Ctrl+v the clipboard was empty and the cut out text disappeared.

I also tried to get my text back with Ctrl+z (undo). But that didn’t work either. Probably it undoed only the empty pasting via Ctrl+v. The cut out text is gone forever.

What did you expect to happen:

If no text is selected and I press Ctrl+c it should not alter my clipboard content. I tried it in various applications and in other web apps. There the clipboard will remain intact if I press Ctrl+c with no text selected.

I don’t know what the undo strategy of the web app is but it would be nice to have a multiple undo. In that case two or three steps back would solve the problem of text loss.

Thanks for reporting. This is a bug that should be easy to fix.

In this case you could have pressed Ctrl+z twice to get the text back.

I tried to press Ctrl+z multiple times. But it didn’t work. I just tried in a new note. As it seems the WebApp gives you only one undo, at least it doesn’t work with cutting, copying and pasting.

Edit:

I tried more and undo doesn’t seem to work at all. Filed a new topic for that: Strg + z doesn't work at all - no undo in the WebApp possible

Can confirm it is solved with Bear Web Update 0.22 (2025-10-14) now.
