Text disappeared in all notes

I haven’t used Bear in a couple of years. I looked at it on mobile last night (ios iPad), and everything was fine, and I decided I would sign up to Pro and commit to using Bear. But this morning I opened at the desktop version which is NOT synced to mobile since I haven’t been paying for pro. Most of the text is missing from the notes on desktop (Mac OS). These notes are mostly web clipped pages, and the images are intact, but I can’t even select text the way I could if it was there but just not visible for some reason. It’s just gone. Even the “Welcome to Bear” note that comes with installation is missing all its text. can’t select text with Cmd+A either.

I created a new note and started typing, and the text is invisible, but it is there, and I can copy and paste it. I’ve tried changing themes and changing the font, but nothing. I can see the text in the sidebars, but not the notes pane - not even the title.

I left my computer for about an hour, and now the text is back. The problem is solved, but I’d like to hear anyone’s guesses about what could have caused it.

I’m puzzled by the causes but I suspect this is the key to a better understanding of the issue. When you say you can’t even select the text but it was not there, do you mean you can select the area where the text is but nothing appears?
Any chance you are not using the standard Bear font on macOS?

No, I could not select anything. Nothing showed as highlighted if I tried to select with my mouse or with Cmd-A.

I was using the standard BearSans UI fonts. When this was happening, I clicked “Restore Editor Defaults” under settings > typography, just in case. That didn’t fix it.

Thanks. Do you remember the Bear release you were running?

It says Version 2.3.4 (12931)
