Use bear with Siri Shortcuts - dictation issue

Hi guys, great to join the community.

The issue I have has been brought up three years ago in the old Reddit Forum and is unanswered with the users following up without developers concluding the issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/bearapp/comments/jhbnrc/bear_shortcuts_siri_dictation_issue/

as the forum has been moved here, I’m starting it again to hopefully help others using Google search to find how to do this.

More importantly, is it not mentioned here: The most useful support articles on their website

Shortcuts hasn’t changed in any way to make this not work.

I have created a shortcut that uses the Apple Shortcuts action Dictate Text. It allows me to dictate the text, attaches a timestamp, and then adds that combination to a Bear note.

When I access the shortcut by pressing the tile in the Shortcuts app, things work just as planned. However, when I attempt to access the shortcut using Siri – for instance saying, “Hey Siri, Dictate to Bear” – The Shortcut performs as desired if I initiate it by pressing a Shortcuts button. However, any time I use the “Hey, Siri” command, that same Shortcut runs as expected UNTIL it reaches the Bear action. removing “Wait to return to Shortcuts” had it work for a while.

Skip to 2024; I’m wondering are there devs in this forum who have worked out a Siri activated shortcut to begin and paste dictated text.?

Are you using a legacy bear shortcuts action? The shortcuts team made some bear actions back in the day, those reports “bear” in the action title as opposed to the one provided by us.

I have this suspect because we don’t provide a return to shortcut option and will explan why it can’t be triggered by siri

Hi mate. I’m aware of the legacy shortcuts issue you mention and no don’t use them. I’ve certainly used the shortcuts available here on the website. Never mind the stop action, it’s irrelevant now. Happy to start troubleshooting the issue of dictating to bear from shortcuts because the info online is from old reddit posts from 2023 and that forum’s closed. Maybe that team member’s left Bear!?
