@Valkyrie For determining number of notes: Go to “Notes” view (= all notes), and press escape as long as nothing is active - than you can see number of your notes in the background under cosmo-Bear picture. Alternatively - cmd+A when focus is in note list (select all) and you will see the same.
Ah thanks. 2362 notes.
I have exactly same type of lag on my Mac M1 Pro
I have migrated from Craft Docs using “textbundle” format
In my case there are 1200 notes
I’m having this problem now too. I just imported 6000 notes from evernote and now typing anything into the search field is very slow. Lag after each character.
Using 2.0.9 (11930).
Same problem. Would debouncing the input be an easier to implement middle of the road solution until off-thread search is released?
Any news on when this might be addressed?
Hello, sorry for the lack of follow-ups regarding this issue. We are still on some other bug fixes but it’s our intention to provide a fix for search lags next week or the week after.
Hello, when do you plan to work on this issue? I still experience the same lag.
@trix180, please give me some info about it.
Hello, we are working on providing a fix for this issue for the 2.1 update.
Thanks @trix180. I will be waiting for it. I miss old search from Bear 1.
Hello, I just need some info to understand the issue better as the search is exactly the same as Bear 1 and it didn’t change at all.
I’m wondering what’s making your search slower, a couple of factors can lead to that:
- have you imported or added a huge amount of notes?
- are you a pro user and do you have a lot of pdf or images in your notes? (the new OCR search might be adding a lot of data to the search)
Thank you.
Hello @matteo,
thanks for asking!
I miss old search from Bear 1.
I mean in Bear 1 search worked instantly after pressing keys.
- have you imported or added a huge amount of notes?
I migrated to Bear 1 from Evernote (about 1900 notes). Search was instant. Then I used Bear Beta 2. Since than searching has noticeably slowed down. It is still slow in Bear 2. This is what’s happening.
- are you a pro user and do you have a lot of pdf or images in your notes? (the new OCR search might be adding a lot of data to the search)
I’m pro user. I have over 300 notes with PDFs (I checked by using @files search).
My device: MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019
Hello, we are working on providing a fix for this issue for the 2.1 update.
When do you plan to implement 2.1 update?
We’re on version 2.3.3 and the input lag issue still hasn’t been fixed. The app is fast otherwise, but it feels like we’re being punished for using it a lot when trying to search through notes. At this time I’ve given up on getting the old search experience, I just want my keyboard inputs to not lag while typing in the search. Show the search results with debounce/after you finished typing if you can’t improve the performance please.
Hello, are you talking about the global search or the in-note search? As the global search is completely async and should not make your input lag (we are testing it with a 60k database).
You are right. I see that it’s async now. It’s the perception of it being laggy that confuses me. While I’m typing the results will update, but throttled(?), and the jerkiness makes me think that the input isn’t registering my keys. I guess this solution is required for 60k notes, but I only have 2000+ and it “feels” laggy.
My analysis is that while you type the sidebar items will update like a slideshow, and it makes it feel laggy and you start second guess your keyboard strokes. If you’d like I can send you a video demonstrating while I search in the app versus when I search via Alfred.
Not toally sure how to improve this visually, maybe transition, indicators, etc. Or why even activate throttle/debounce when you have only 2000 notes on a M1-3 mac?
for me the global search works great and isn’t laggy at all, but my in-note search on larger notes (especially notes that have lots of bullets) is really laggy while I am typing. I can provide an example video if that’s helpful.
We’re aware of that, the in-note search is still not async and it might be slow on larger notes. It’s on our list to change that as async as well
thanks for making this app so great and always improving!
