The 'Moby Dick' test

So importing this file into Bear seems to have broken syncing for me.

moby_dick.md.zip (466.3 KB)

I found it in this article:

I figured since Bear is native and snappy it wouldn’t be an issue, but now notes are no longer syncing correctly. Is this expected, or have I hit some kind of bug?

Sounds like a White Whale to me. Perhaps reading the book and learning a lesson from it might be more useful in this instance!?

Ha, I walked right into that one.

There’s a hard limit of 500K characters per note. If you exceed this limit, the note will be excluded from the sync.

For more information about the sync limits, refer to the docs: https://bear.app/faq/sync-troubleshooting/#attachments-limitshttps://bear.app/faq/sync-troubleshooting/#attachments-limits

I was not aware of the 500k character limit. I imagine most people are not. If this doesn’t already exist, I suggest adding it: when a note exceeds 500k characters a note appears in the note’s INFO panel saying something like “syncing is suspended for this note as it exceeds the 500k character limit.”

Does this character count towards Bear’s syntax? The text needed for PDF previews and image size adjustments.
