Immediate Sign Out

Operation system: Windows 11

Web Browser: Firefox

Bug report

What were you doing: Writing a note

What feature did you use:

What happened: Immediately after signing in I can see my notes and read them. As soon as I try to write something it kicks me out saying to sign into my account again. It does this when I create new notes too.

What did you expect to happen: The ability to edit and make new notes.

Feedback:

Hi and thank you for the feedback. This is clearly not the indended behaviour. Does it happen every time or was it on a single occasion? Your setup (firefox on windows11) sound pretty standard, do you happen to have any particular extension running? Thanks again for reporting this and your patience.

Hi there! It is happening every single time. I tried it on Firefox, and I tried it on Zen browser (which is a fork of Firefox).

Extensions that I am running are fairly standard too:

  • Ublock Origin
  • 1Password
  • TWP (translate webpages)

I will try it on Safari on my mac later today and let you know if that works. I can try it on Chrome to see if that has the same issue, but I prefer to avoid using Chrome whenever possible. Let me know what you want me to do next!

Hi there,

I have done some more testing. It seems to be something to do with my account perhaps? I have now tried on Safari on a different computer, and OSX instead of Windows. The behavior is the same.

  • Log in with my AppleID (an @me address)
  • I see my notes. I click one and I can read it.
  • I click on another note and it logs me out and asks me to log back in
  • I log back in, I repeat the process, it logs me out.

It is worth noting I can type in the first note that I open. I click away and it logs me out, and when I log back in, it does not save the text I just wrote.

The same behavior happens when I create a new file too.

Hello there!

Any chance you could point me in a direction to try and solve this issue? My pro is about to lapse and if I can’t get access to my notes on Windows I probably will have to move to another app soon as I need my notes readable on my work machine.

Hi, first of all, thank you for your patience and for the additional info. That really means a lot (and helps us troubleshooting). Sadly we’re still trying to replicate your same experience, so far without success. One question: is the note that causes your session to end always the same, or does it always happen with the second note you choose, no matter which note that is?

Hey there!

It happens on any note. It also happens when I start a new note from the web interface.

  1. I will see all my notes listed and not click on any of them
  2. I will click new note
  3. I will put the title into the note
  4. It kicks me out

Would you like me to record a video of this?

Hi @hellerphant thank you for the details! I found the error among the crash logs… but It’s very weird:
when you attempt to create the note, the iCloud API is rejecting the request with a justification of “Request Entity Too Large”, but I see that the size of the request is very small, well within the limits.

I’ll keep digging; in the meantime, is there a chance you exhausted the iCloud quota?

Welll nooooow I feel like an idiot. Never thought to check, and yes my iCloud data was at the limit. Made some space, works flawlessly now. Thank you!

That’s great news! I will make sure we add some messaging on Bear Web for this eventuality.
