What happened: It happens periodically and sporadically, and most often when the note I am trying to open contains a list (but sometimes that same note will view normally). I click on the preview and the note in the main window appears mirrored and back to front. The only way i have found to fix it is to double click to open the note in a new window and amend it somehow and this seems to “reboot” it. If I just open it in a new window and close it nothing happens, i have to amend it somehow in the new window. If there is more than one note under the main tag, i can click on the preview below, then back on the one i want and that also seems to fix it.
What did you expect to happen: For it to view as normal
I use Bear on an external display also but as it doesn’t happen on all notes, and only occurs sporadically I don’t think that it has anything to do with the how that screen renders things nor the cable etc (as suggested in reponse to your post).
No, I haven’t. It doesn’t happen all the time, but I’ve noticed it occurs very consistently right when I switch to a new tag and open a note (see the video in my post).
I agree with you that the problem has nothing to do with my cable or monitor setup, which works perfectly with all other apps. Frankly, the response to my post feels like it was written by an AI, especially since it asked for a video when I had already attached one!
This issue has been reported only on macOS Ventura, and we have never been able to replicate the conditions to trigger it. I assume this is somehow a problem of macOS 13 only, as we haven’t corrected this bug, and it has not been reported on 14 and 15. Unfortunately, this makes correcting this bug way harder, but if you happen to discover the conditions to trigger the mirroring/upside-down, please let me know.
Thanks for the responses - I am the same, can’t upgrade OS due to my hardware (my 7 year old Macbook Pro is still going strong)
My setup is Macbook pro connected to a HP screen via a usbc (thunderbolt) to HDMI connector. Also extended (not duplicated).
Conditions under which it occurs are as described by ffmich and I would add that for me it most commonly occurs on notes that contain a tickable list.
If it is the only note under that tag, I can only fix it by double clicking to open the note, making some amendment (even if that is just adding another tick box or whatever) and closing it again. if there is more than one note under that tag, I can click on the preview of the next note, then back on the one that is rendering incorrectly and it is then fine.
The weird thing is that it doesn’t always happen.
